Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

MBSR

“Finding the grace to move towards stress, illness and pain, and find healing within”

Move towards greater balance in life and meet everyday challenges with awareness, energy, and
life-affirming possibility.

This 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) is modeled on the MBSR program developed 30 years ago by Jon Kabat Zin, author of “Full Catastrophe Living,” and Saki Santorelli, author of “Heal Thy Self,” at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. After three decades of published research, those who have participated in MBSR courses around the world report:

• Lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms
• An increased ability to relax
• Reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with pain that may not go away
• Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
• Improved self-esteem
• An ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations.

Although MBSR is an educational program and not a substitute for medical treatment or psychotherapy is has proved helpful for those with a variety of challenges once treatment or therapy are complete including:

• Stress from job, family, finances
• Chronic Pain, or illness
• Chronic anxiety or panic
• Gastrointestinal distress
• High Blood Pressure
• Sleeplessness
• Grief/loss
• Headaches/Depression/Fatigue

This course is intensive in nature, and requires a commitment for the eight weekly classes and a
5-hour class on a Saturday. The curriculum incorporates the following:

• Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
• Gentle stretching and mindful yoga (any level)
• Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
• Individually tailored instruction
• Daily home assignments
• Four home practice CDs and a home practice manual
